I want to give you an example when it comes to running your internet business. Say
That you are running your bar(website), it is a reasonably busy small bar with lots of regular customers. Say that is your website as of right now.
You also get other patrons who come from all directions.(inbound links to your website) Some make their way to your bar/website using all of the little country back roads ( from links on other sites ), others come on the gigantic road ( the web ) from the giant bars in the town ( The Search Engines ). We may naturally be sending one of our workers to see just how busy your bar is ( Search Engine link spiders ). If you send your clients to the bar down the line, he would be busier than you, and get all of the new consumers from the town. So you stop counseling his bar, and hide the small leaflets that gave directions.
In reality, there are ten tiny bars in your neighborhood that are all doing this and the local back roads are alive with purchasers going from bar to bar ( The net ). Often , when a person comes from the massive bars in the town ( the Search Engines ), you suggest the other local bars and all your chums benefit from that visitor too. Then one day the enormous bar in the town sent all of the local bars a letter exclaiming : "We are a much bigger bar than you, we have thousands of consumers, and they are all trying to find nice tiny country bars like yours.
We'd be happy to endorse your bar/website we want to know that your bar is preferred before we tell our buyers. The busier your bar is, the more purchasers we'll send you. Make sense?
What you current visitor does.. Your clients customarily stay and have a lager or 2 ( read some pages of your website ), then decide they would like to try somewhere different. Because you realize your clients are certain to leave at some point any way, you suggest the bar down the line, informing them it's a great bar too. You even show them a little leaflet you made ( your link section ), which gives them directions on ways to find it. The bar down the line also has his regulars, plus some visitors from you, and some from the bars in the town.
The big website knows you send him customers, so when his consumers had a drink or 2, and fancy going somewhere different, he returns the favor, advises your bar and gives them directions how to get there.
The alternative?? Link for traffic first, link only with sites who understand their visitors are leaving at some point any way, Sites that are related to yours, sites who are ready to send their leaving visitors to other sites not straight back to search engines all of the time. It's not that I am search engine whacking here, they are wonderful and helpful resources. Exchange only quality plain links, that might bring you visitors.
The biggest way to improve your website traffic is to have a traffic system in place and promote your website often and on a regular basis.
The biggest advice I can give you is to make relationships with other webmasters and tell them, Everybody wants to know "What is in it for them" if they add a link from there website to yours you'll put up there add on a high traffic section of your website or something like that.
The longer your website is online the better and with all the new websites popping up every day all you really need to do is promote and keep your website and get it listed in as much places as you can so you can improve your website traffic.
